The three phones are codenamed “Pyxis,” “bamboo_sprout,” and “cosmos_sprout,” with the _sprout suffix seen in the devices on Google’s Android One program. They are most likely the Xiaomi Mi A3 and Xiaomi Mi A3 Lite and one of their Chinese versions. The third one lacks it, meaning it could be the Xiaomi Mi 7X. We may also see an OLED panel on the devices as some budget phones are launching with OLED panels these days.

Design: Bezel-less at the top?
So, speaking about the design aspects of the Xiaomi Mi A3 Android One smartphone, a rectangular notch, a water-drop notch or the newly arrived island camera placement could be seen, which will eliminate the top bezel of the device. However, do not expect the bottom bezel to go away anytime soon, as that will be an expensive process.
Apart from that, on the rear, it will again be a metal design with the usual dual camera setup, but this time the placement could be in the center rather than on the left side as seen in most Mi and Redmi phones this year. The fingerprint reader could this be found under the display as with each year the in-display/under the displayed fingerprint scanning technology is improving rapidly and the response times are now far better then what we have seen in the first generation devices.
Specifications
In the Specs department, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 based on the Qualcomm® Kryo™ 470 cores. The device won’t face any problems handling the graphics for PUBG and Fortnite as it has the Adreno 618 GPU. It also sports an X15 LTE modem with peak download speeds up to 800mbps, so it’s quite fast but not 5G ready, which isn’t the primary target audience or market of this device anyway.
The biggest drawback of the Xiaomi Mi A2 was its battery and according to the rumors this time Xiaomi will fix the issue and will provide 3300 mAh battery inside the Mi A3 along with the 18W Quick Charging capabilities.

Coming towards the memory department the base variant of the Mi A3 will have 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage while the top of the line model will sport at least 6GB RAM if not 8GB with 128GB internal storage. You will also get sd-card slot support up to 256GB. But we can’t say the same about the 3.5mm headphone jack which is a dying breed. An sd-card is always better than a 3.5mm jack but to each their own.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Camera
The camera on the Mi A3 will again be class leading with two sensors (12 MP, f/1.8, 1/2.9″, 1.4µm 20 MP, f/1.8, 1/2.8″, 1.0µm) one will be a telephoto while the other is expected to be a Wide-angle or a conventional RGB sensor. But due to the rising trend of the triple camera sensors, the Mi A3 might come up as the first Android One device to come with a tri-camera setup, with three lenses for dedicated sensors such as :
- A Telephoto Zoom lens
- A Wide-angle lens
- and a Bayer sensor(Black and White)
While on the front, Dual Front selfie snappers will be in the cards, along with an LED flash, but if this happens, a regular rectangular notch will be there rather than a water drop notch. So, that’s one thing to keep in mind, if the leaks say a single front camera, its a water drop notch if more than two then a rectangular notch.
Software and Android Updates
The Mi A3’s standard non-Android One Mi 7X model will run on Android Pie based MIUI 10 update same as Redmi Note 7, but Android one variant will have the Android Pie 9.0 (or maybe Android Q) with two years of major Android Updates. Other software features will be related to Artificial intelligence, which will automate some of your daily chores and will also know apps that you open after a using a specific app and will monitor your behaviors and patterns and extract the most optimal solution for better user experience.
Mi A3’s Camera software will also come packed with new tricks such as an improved bokeh mode, which will simulate difference bokeh styles such as the regular one does the circular shapes, the new software is expected to show pentagon, squares and so on.
Mi A3 Release date
The Xiaomi Mi A3 will be first launched as the Mi 7x in the Chinese market, and after a month or a couple of weeks, the device will witness a global release by the mid of Q3 2019. So, along with the similar lines of Mi A2, it’s upcoming successor will be released. However, some rumors are indicating that the Xiaomi MI A3 will release after Pocophone Poco F2 launch.
Mi A3 Price
Such devices follow similar pricing schemes seen with its predecessors, and with minor improvements, the price might see a 2% hike but not more than that. So, the Xiaomi Mi A3 could be priced at $255 to $300 around INR18000-20000 in India for the top model and at this price you’re getting a lot of hardware. Thus genuinely touching the value for money mark, with 6GB RAM, 64GB or 128GB storage, decent camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 or further and the most importantly 2 years of Android Updates at a faster pace if you want faster updates delivered to your phone and for a more extended period than you should look forward to the Xiaomi Mi A3.
Even if you’re an existing Mi A2 users, the Mi A3 will bring a lot of new things to the table at a similar price, offering double the value with new modern features, better camera and an update to system software.

Upcoming Xiaomi Android One smartphones might arrive with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Back in 2017, Xiaomi teamed up with Google to announce the Mi A1, its first Android One smartphone. Following the same, it launched the successor to this device called Mi A2 in mid-2018. Notably, it was accompanied by a toned-down variant called Mi A2 Lite. As we are nearing the second quarter of this year, the rumors pertaining to the third-generation model in the Mi A series have started hitting the web.
As per a report by XDA Developers, it looks like Xiaomi is all set to launch two new Android One smartphones with the codenames 'bamboo_sprout' and 'cosmos_sprout'. As all the Android One smartphones carry the suffix 'sprout' in their codenames, these two smartphones are believed to be called Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite.
Upcoming Xiaomi Android One smartphones
Given that these upcoming Xiaomi smartphones will run Android One, it makes sense to believe that these will run stock Android Pie. We can also expect these phones to receive the Android Q update later this year. Apart from the stock Android experience, the report hints at a couple of other highlights as well.
It notes that these smartphones are being tested with 'fod', which could be an abbreviation for a fingerprint on display. Given that Vivo has already launched many smartphones with in-display fingerprint sensors in the mid-range category, it won't be a great surprise to see Xiaomi follow its footsteps. It is also believed that there could be a 32MP selfie camera housed inside the waterdrop notch offering a near bezel-less experience.
As of now, the details regarding these upcoming Android One smartphones from the stable of Xiaomi are scarce. We can expect these phones to be announced sometime in late May or early June. However, there is no word regarding its pricing though we can expect it to be priced around Rs. 15,000 in India.
